Nicole Cullen has practised law for 20 years and is an expert in family law and criminal law. Nicole attended James Cook University and Queensland University of Technology before moving to Mackay in 2000. She commenced a trainee solicitor program in 2000, was admitted as a solicitor in 2002, and has worked with McKays since October 2005. Nicole became the first female Principal of McKays in 2010, is now a Director of the practice and manages the Family Law and Criminal Law teams in Mackay and also visits the McKays Family Law Brisbane office on one day each week.
Having conducted many complex cases over the last 20 years in family law, criminal law and commercial litigation, Nicole’s strengths lie in her ability to strategise her client’s case throughout the process to achieve the best possible outcome for her clients. Nicole assists clients, wherever possible, to resolve their matter without having to apply to the Court, to save the costs and stress of litigation in the Court. Nicole’s goal is to assist clients to understand their position and options, at all stages of their matter, by providing clear and direct legal advice, while at the same time being empathetic, down to earth and easy to talk to. She regularly receives feedback that her clients trust her and feel comfortable talking to her about any aspect of their matter, which is extremely important to Nicole when dealing with family law matters. The majority of Nicole’s files comes from clients who have been referred to her by previous or existing clients, but she welcomes new clients.
Nicole is passionate about leading a large team of talented family lawyers in Mackay and Brisbane who pride themselves on providing clients with a very high level of advice, guidance and representation. The McKays Family Law team has the knowledge and expertise to assist clients with any family law matter and, as a group, aim to exceed expectations of clients.
Separate to her work as a family lawyer, Nicole is a Nationally Accredited Mediator and Accredited Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner, and is able to assist parties to resolve their property or parenting matter, whether or not the parties have legal representation. Over the years, Nicole has had various roles on boards and committees relating to both family law and criminal law.
