Rise in pay rates announced
The Fair Work Commission (FWC) has granted a 1.75% wages increase to minimum pay and award wage workers.
The FWC lifted the national minimum wage by $13.00 to $753.80 a week, or $19.84 an hour.
The flow on effect to Awards is a 1.75% increase.
Significantly the start date of the rise is staggered for some industries because of impacts of the coronavirus upon the economy.
Frontline healthcare, social assistance, teachers and childcare workers are to receive the increase from 1 July; construction, manufacturing and other industries from 1 November; and accommodation, food services, arts, recreation, aviation, retail and tourism from 1 February.
The rise of 1.75% is less than last year’s rise of 3% and less than the 4% increase sought by unions.
